Re: Elevator Director/Inspector Test

 Dear Ms. Lancaster:

I have just learned that the Elevator Director/Inspector Test being given on October 18, 2003 covers the 1987-88-89 Code, which is no longer enforced in New York City.  Also, the Code Book the applicants are instructed to purchase is no longer available.

The Experior Assessment Application lists the following as references:

ANSI/ASME A17.1 Safety Code for Elevators and Escalators, 1987

                                    Should be 1996-97

ASME A17.2.2-1988 INSPECTORS’ MANUAL FOR HYDRAULIC ELEVATORS, Part II

            Should be 1994

NEW YORK CITY BUILDING CODE, RS-18, Chapter 11, 1993

Should be RS-18 revised as of 4/17/03

NEW YORK CITY ELECTRICAL CODE, September 1, 1987
(This book is not on sale at the City Book Store)

Should be NEC 1996 and NYC Int 741A and Int 284

1.                  How can a test be given on codes we do not follow?

2.                  How can an applicant study for a test, when the study material is discontinued?

Please advise at your earliest convenience.

Yours very truly,

HUBERT H. HAYES
